$2M is being spent on this day, the day before Devcon

While others are back to building, our eyes are on Devcon. After all, the last time the official Ethereum conference took place was two years ago.

In this issue:

  • Chiang Mai, the latest crypto experiment

  • We ran a Crypto Merch Survey & got some brutally honest answers

  • What we know about Devcon so far

  • Builder Highlights

There are only 7600 developers who work in crypto full time*

To attract more builders, our industry has raised salaries, expanded globally, provided millions in grants and organized hacker houses free of charge.

But what if we took it a step further, and got builders to live together for several weeks, instead of just days?

That is the upcoming October experiment in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Edge City, a four-week pop-up village covering topics such as Ethereum & Zero-Knowledge

Participating companies include NEAR, Eigen Layer, Celo, or Filecoin.

MegaZu - pop-up village for 50 dapp builders, organized by EigenLayer & MegaETH. Daily schedule includes Muay Thai & morning meditation

“If protocols want me to be a walking advertisement for them, it has to either serve a purpose or make me look good in it”

As we were in the middle of designing our merch, a black T-shirt, we thought, why not run a survey to find out what our members & audience think?

We asked 4 Questions:

The Answers

Takeaway: T-shirts are still in, just make sure they are unique. Good merch should be of high quality, and be either useful or stylish.

4 things we know about Devcon so far

  1. Devcon organizers don’t want side events that clash with their programming and will not feature conflicting events on their site.

  2. Devcon programming will end at around 7pm everyday.

  3. Speakers have all been selected and announced (in case your Twitter feed isn’t flooded with it!)

  4. There will be at least 20 full day conferences on November 11, the day before Devcon. If an average cost for a full day conference is $60k, we’re looking at $1.2M. Then there’s night parties, hacker houses and shorter side events. Since we’re still over a month away, $2M total spend on November 11 side events is probably a fair estimate.

We found our old side events list from Devcon Colombia 2022 (back when we were just known for our viral spreadsheet), we’ll share it in the next newsletter issue, as well as more Devcon alpha.
