Moo Deng was born 1.5h away from Devcon. Coincidence?
We like to stay away from prices & trading, but this hippo memecoin has infiltrated our feed. Here’s what you, a very serious person in crypto, can take away from it.
In this issue:
ETHCC announced 2025 dates
Crypto companies capitalizing on the Moo Deng craze
3 Devcon do’s and don’ts
Builder Highlights
Crypto companies competing for real estate in Cannes
The largest European ETH conference is deviating from its usual Paris editions (with the exception of Brussels last year).
ETHCC 8: June 30th-July 3rd, 2025 in Cannes
Last year, ETHCC 7 hit a record and doubled its attendance with 5k people and 500 side events.
Moving to a much larger venue makes sense, except…
ChatGPT tells us there are plenty of large event venues within a 30-minute radius of ETHCC’s old Paris building - more than 100 to be exact. But in Cannes, there are only 20 to 50 of such venues with similar accessibility.
So if you’re planning to do a bigger side event for your company, be ready to compete.
It might seem like we’re in an abundance of everything: Money, side events, L2s.
Fear not, we’re still tiny compared to the Cannes Films Festival…
While we’ll be sharing the same venue, we’re still 1/5 the size of Cannes Film Festival
TLDR; There shall be no shame in adding more side events or L2s 😉

This baby pygmy hippo became an overnight internet sensation. Its subsequent memecoins have amassed over $300 million market cap across multiple chains.
Moo Deng was born 1.5 hrs away from Devcon, the most anticipated crypto conference of the year
So how have crypto companies capitalized on these two hyped events?
Nansen flew the entire team to see Moo Deng
Aggregation Summit speakers & tickets swapped for images of Moo Deng:
There are requests from people asking to go see Moo Deng in Telegram group chats
People are using Moo Deng stickers
TLDR; Every crypto hype can be turned into a marketing opportunity.
“Will Devcon be big, and should I take the time to fly to Thailand for it?”
We don’t know of any large crypto company that isn’t planning to come to Devcon.
Two years ago in Colombia we tracked 120 Devcon side events. This year, we are fast approaching 300 and we still have a month to go.
Check out our old side events spreadsheet here (the good old days when we had no bugs!).
3 Devcon Do’s and Don’ts
Don’t:
Go to a yacht party. It will be so far and you’ll be stuck in traffic (sorry, boat organizers!)
Host a serious panel in the evenings (or… dare we say, skip panels altogether?)
Use TukTuks. It sounds fun, but it’s too much pollution and traffic.
Unless you’re a founder inviting an investor. Locking them in your branded vehicle on the way to another side event might actually be a good hack 😉
Do:
Order a bike in your Grab or Bolt app. Bikes & public transportation are the fastest options.
Make use of travel arbitrage. Medical Tourism is great here, you can get a full body check for $250.
Email back if you’re looking for Devcon speakers. Our community is full of insightful web3 founders and builders we can send your way 🙂
