Some want to fork ETHCC; others just dropped $500K on this venue.

ETHCC faces backlash over costs, but Cannes venues see big spending.

In this issue:

  • What nobody tells you about company exits

  • Token2049 Dubai

  • One Crypto Event we didn’t list

  • ETHCC floating island

Deals from our sponsors:

Founders rarely share if their company exit wasn’t financially successful

Next time you see an acquisition announcement, be sure to read between the lines. Enter acquihires…

Acquihires are essentially a graceful way for the startup to shut down and send the team back to the workforce on a high tech salary.

Signs the company was likely acqui-hired:

  • The price is not revealed

  • The product shuts down immediately after acquisition

Crypto companies that shut down post acquisition:

TLDR; Building a company is hard, especially in crypto. Acquisitions don’t have to mean founders are now well off.

What you should know about Token2049 Dubai Week

Token2049 After party in Singapore 2024

  • It’s becoming more builder friendly; there’s Solana Economic Zone, a think tank and unconference for SOL builders, and ETHDubai.

  • The official after party is a paid event separate from the conference. In Singapore tickets cost $100-$250. However, you’ll notice their parties are exceptionally diverse. That’s because ladies can get in for free. 😉

  • There are 50 side events already. We’ll be tracking everything, be sure to bookmark the page!

One Crypto Event you didn’t find on our site

They probably didn’t use Luma to get in this one

Last week’s White House Crypto Summit brought together key industry leaders like the founders of Kraken, Polymarket, or Solana. Coinbase announced plans to create 1,000 U.S. jobs—an exciting time for crypto!

If you took this venue for ETHCC, can we please crash your party?

For weeks, we’ve been spying on the best venues in Cannes for us and our clients.

We’ll admit—we lost this stunning floating island to someone else. Rumor has it, it’s booked for the entire week, with a single day costing $130k+ (yes, that includes boats to ferry guests back and forth).

While there’s been some speculation about lower attendance this year due to high costs, from an events perspective, we’ve seen no indication of a slowdown.

Community Wins

  • Welcome to two new CNC members! Sunny from Dune (previously Alchemy) and Dnns from OneFootball Club, which is aiming to bring a mass consumer football app onchain.

Who Are We?

  • We’re building cryptonomads.org—the go-to place to discover crypto events, companies, jobs, and professionals.

  • We also run a private club—a community of web3 founders and builders who meet at events worldwide.

Cheers!
