🇦🇷 Argentina Is Far — Literally
Devconnect Buenos Aires is shaping up to be one of the largest Ethereum gatherings this year—and one of the most logistically demanding.

>30 Nonstop connections to Buenos Aires according to flightconnections.com
Buenos Aires (EZE) offers 30+ direct international routes. Less than 10 reach Europe and the U.S., making most trips outside of LATAM 15+ hours.
From Europe, typical round trips are $1,500+ — often close to 3× Bangkok fares on the same dates.

>100 Nonstop connections to Bangkok (for last year’s Devcon)
By contrast, Bangkok (BKK) offers 100+ direct routes spanning Europe, the U.S., Australia, and Asia—making last year’s Devcon travel logistics simpler for many intercontinental visitors.
What builders are telling us
Devconnect is finally within an exciting reach for LATAM builders - but for others, there’s more hesitation…
“I hope to win ETHGlobal hackathon prize to offset BA costs.” - Dev based in Prague 🇨🇿
“Economy class for that long is rough and business class would be too expensive.” - Crypto founder based in Dubai 🇦🇪
“If I could do it with one simple leg, I’d go.” - Crypto founder based in Switzerland 🇨🇭
“I would have to take many days off of work just to travel” - Dev based in Slovakia 🇸🇰
What this means
EF flagships remain must-attend for protocol teams; projections are 10–15k attendees with roughly half from LATAM.
If the price of ETH remains high, it may attract more institutional players and distance will no longer be an issue 😉
The swing factor is independent hackers, people with families, and smaller teams from outside of LATAM with no company budgets—they’re the most likely to hesitate given price + distance.
Which brings us to the next topic…
Builder Flights: The New Growth Strategy
Builders don’t just need a reason to attend — they need a way to get there. Ecosystems are already experimenting:
ETHBelgrade covered one-way flights from Prague to Belgrade to lure in ETHGlobal Prague builders.
Token2049 partnered with Singapore Airlines for their SG event and Emirates for their Dubai event to offer discounted flights to attendees.
Redacted chartered a flight to Singapore for TOKEN2049.
Flow Blockchain runs a Flow Scholar Program, flying 3–6 builders to hackathons, covering their costs, and integrating them as ambassadors or event supporters.
